SAMPLE COLLECTION | SAMPLE TRANSPORTATION
The following provides sampling instructions for our most commonly requested environmental and effluent analyses. For any other parameters, please
contact us for more information.
BOD AND TSS ANALYSES
- One 500 mL clean plastic bottle is sufficient for both BOD and TSS analyses.
- Please fill bottle completely, leaving no air space, and recap immediately.
FECAL COLIFORM ANALYSES
- One 250 mL sterilised container is required per fecal coliform sample.
- Please be careful not to introduce contamination when filling the sample container.
NUTRIENT ANALYSES
- A minimum of 250 mL in a clean, well-rinsed plastic container is required per sample.
- Please be careful not to introduce contamination when filling the sample container.
- The sample(s) should arrive at the laboratory in Courtenay within 24 hours of sampling. (Please keep this timeframe in mind if using our Nanaimo Drop-Off Station.)
- Samples should be kept cool during transit.
- Please supply a completed Requisition Form or include appropriate billing information (name, phone #, fax #, and mailing address), and analyses required.
- If this is the first time submitting a sample to North Island Labs for BOD analysis, please advise us of expected levels; this assists us in performing the appropriate dilutions when testing.
 |
Ideally, samples should be delivered to our Nanaimo Drop-Off Station by 11:00 a.m. for same-day shipping to our Courtenay lab. |
Due to transportation constraints, our Nanaimo Drop-Off Station can only accept samples until 11:00
a.m. on Fridays.
Wherever possible, please try to take samples right before coming to the Nanaimo Drop-Off Station, to maximize transportation options.
